Argentina Football Team

Argentina Football Team

Argentina produced the first club, first national association and first league in South America. These early days of the game were marked by a heavy British influence, a fact which is still reflected in the English-language names of a number of teams. The sky blue and white found in the AFA emblem is also found in the national jersey and both pay homage to the sky blue and white flag of Argentina. The national championship has traditionally been dominated by the Big Five of the capital - River Plate, Boca Juniors, Independiente, Racing and San Lorenzo. Their hegemony has only occasionally been challenged by Vélez Sársfield and the two giants of Rosario - Argentina has played two championships per year since the late 1960s. From the mid 60s to the early 80s, Argentina played a Metropolitan championship Since the mid 90s, the championship has been split into two torneos - opening (Apertura) and closing (Clausura). As in most of Latin America, there is no cup competition in Argentina.

Argentina Football Team Achivements

  • World Cup (1978, 86)
  • Copa America (1921, 25, 27, 29, 37, 41, 45, 46, 47, 55, 57, 59, 91, 93)

Juventus

Juventus Football Club

Juventus are Italy’s most successful club and one of the best supported in the country. The Bianconeri have won 27 league titles, This is due largely to their relegation to Serie B for their part in a corruption scandal that rocked Italian soccer in the middle of the decade. They are now back in Serie A but have been unable to curtail Inter milan dominance. However, after a calamitous 2009-10 season that saw the club finish seventh, Ferrara departed and in came Sampdoria coach Luigi Del Neri.

In honour of its origins, the club has retained the English spelling of its city's name, instead of changing it to the Italian MilanoHistorically, AC Milan was supported by the city's working class and trade unionists many of whom were migrants from the South of Italy. Inter, the other big club from the city was mainly supported by the more prosperous and typically Milanese middle-class.In 1980 Milan were involved in the Totonero scandal and were relegated to Serie B as punishment. The scandal was centred on a betting syndicate paying players and officials to fix the outcome of matches. Milan were involved in the 2006 Serie A scandal where five teams were accused of fixing matches by selecting favourable referees. Milan were punished with a 15 point deductionThe team's current stadium is the 85,700 seat San Siro, officially known as Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after the former player who represented both Milan and Internazionale. The name San Siro is taken from the district where it's located.

Arsenal Football Club

Arsenal was originally formed in 1886 by a group of workers at the Woolwich armaments factory in south London, and the club was first known as Dial Square. The name was soon changed to Royal Arsenal, though when the club turned professional in 1891 the name changed again to Woolwich Arsenal.Unfortunately, relegation followed in 1913, but coincided with a major landmark in the club's history. Having played for the previous 27 years at various sites in Plumstead, South London, the club moved to its present site at Arsenal Stadium, Highbury, North London. The club went on to dominate English football over the following decade. The FA Cup became Arsenal's first major trophy in 1930, and the first league championship in 1931 was followed by a further 4 titles and another FA Cup over the next 7 years. Success became more habitual once again during the George Graham era. After Graham took over in 1986, Arsenal won six major trophies in the next eight years. A League Cup triumph in 1987 was built upon, and in 1989 the league championship returned to Highbury after an 18 year absence when Arsenal pipped Liverpool to the title on goals scored. In the most exciting finish to the league season ever witnessed in English football the final,The following season, 1997-98, he made history by winning the double for the second time. With some astute close season signings from abroad he revitalised and reforged the team, apart from the astonishingly enduring defence. The new faces took time to bed in, and the early part of the season reached a low point with a UEFA Cup 1st round exit at the hands of PAOK Saloniki, but the ultimate result was an exhilirating and irresistible late season surge. At one point in January 13 points behind Manchester United, Arsenal eclipsed their rivals in the title run-in to clinch their first Premiership (and 11th league) title with 2 games to spare. The second half of the double, the FA Cup, was acheived with a comfortable 2-0 win against Newcastle at Wembley in May.
